Diamond wire saws for large, complex, and deep RCC cuts — no shape restriction

Diamond wire saw cutting is the most powerful and flexible concrete cutting technique — able to cut through RCC sections of virtually any size, shape, or depth where conventional blade saws cannot reach. Palakkad Concrete Cutting uses wire saw equipment for heavy RCC column and beam removal, bridge and infrastructure concrete cutting, confined-space cutting, and any application where a rotating circular blade would be impractical.

What is wire saw cutting?

A diamond wire saw uses a continuous loop of high-tensile steel wire impregnated with diamond segments, driven at high speed by a hydraulic or electric motor. The wire loops around the concrete section and is tensioned against the material under controlled force. As the wire rotates, diamond segments progressively cut through even the heaviest reinforced concrete — including post-tensioned slabs, bridge piers, and multi-layer rebar grids. Wire saw cutting can cut shapes that no circular blade can achieve: curves, complex angles, and cuts initiated from a drilled entry hole.

What is it used for?

  • Heavy RCC column and beam removal
  • Bridge pier and abutment concrete cutting
  • Dam and large infrastructure concrete cutting
  • Confined-space cuts where blade saws cannot reach
  • Post-tensioned slab cutting (after tendon de-tensioning)
  • Deep cuts exceeding 600mm in a single pass
  • Complex-shape concrete removal
  • Large industrial equipment foundation cutting

Our process.

01

Structural Assessment

A structural assessment and engineer sign-off is mandatory for wire saw cutting of any structural element.

02

Wire Threading

Entry holes are core-drilled to thread the diamond wire around the concrete section. The wire is connected to the drive pulley.

03

Controlled Wire Sawing

The wire saw motor drives the diamond wire at controlled speed and feed force. Cutting progress is monitored continuously.

04

Section Lowering

Cut sections are supported with crane or chain block before the final cut. Controlled lowering prevents sudden drop.

05

Cleanup

Diamond wire cutting is a wet process — slurry is contained and vacuumed. Work area is left clean after section removal.

Common questions.

When should I use wire saw cutting instead of wall saw or flat saw?

Wire saw cutting is chosen when: the cut section is too large or thick for blade saws (>600mm), the cut shape cannot be achieved with a circular blade, the work is in a confined space, or the concrete contains post-tensioning tendons. Most jobs use blade saws; wire saws are for specialist heavy-cut applications.

Can wire saws cut through post-tensioned concrete?

Wire saws can physically cut post-tensioned concrete, but only after the structural engineer confirms tendons have been de-tensioned or the cut path avoids live tendons detected by GPR scan. Cutting an active post-tensioning tendon is extremely dangerous.

What sizes can a diamond wire saw cut?

A diamond wire saw has no theoretical size limit — the wire wraps around any section. We have cut RCC sections 1.5m × 2m in cross-section. Practical limits are determined by equipment capacity and available setup space.
